Project Description

Please note that this is a prescriptive product/service that is out of scope for an ND in Ontario; as well as naturopathic evaluation it requires an additional independent non-OHIP covered consultation and revaluation with our medical director, MD,  with possible subsequent referral to the respective unit (IV, Cometic, Pain).

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection Therapy (Under MD Delegation)

As your skin ages, natural collagen production decreases and your skin loses its elasticity. The result is wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin. Your own blood contains the ideal life-giving, fundamental growth factors and platelets needed to restore and repair your skin.

Platelets are the cells in your blood plasma that are responsible for stimulating blood flow to an injured area and increasing collagen production. PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy gives localized areas of your skin that are showing signs of aging an increased number of your own platelets to generate new collagen. Because the treatment uses your own blood there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or intolerance. This makes PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy a safe, natural and minimally invasive anti-aging treatment.

Since PRP does not contain any synthetic products and uses your own blood components, with the addition of calcium, any area of your body can safely be treated with this technique. You may also have heard of PRP treatments used to treat joint injuries and arthritis, especially in athletes.

Cosmetically areas often treated are:

  • fine lines & “crow’s feet” (wrinkles around the eyes)
  • sags and dark circles under the eye
  • wrinkles on forehead neck, and lips
  • acne scars and other bodily scars
  • nasolabial folds

Platelet Rich Plasma Skin Rejuvenation Therapy begins by drawing two small tubes of blood from your arm, just like a simple blood test. The tubes are then placed in our centrifuge machine to separate blood from plasma. Your plasma is then prepared and re-injected into the area being treated, where skin rejuvenation is desired. The entire process is completed, one at a time, in our lab and treatment room within the same appointment – your blood never leaves our clinic. A typical treatment protocol involves four treatments three to four weeks apart; however, this may be adjusted based on your priorities and skin condition.

With every cosmetic treatment, results will vary from person to person based on age, health, and lifestyle. Evaluation is required by our medical director. Typically after treatment, you may notice fine lines and wrinkles appear softer and deeper wrinkles and folds are plump and smooth. There may be improvement in your skin texture and tone. Improvement continues as your body uses the newly injected plasma cells to build new collagen. In fact, subtle improvements can progressively continue even after treatment. The benefits of PRP may be long lasting.

Results for this therapy do vary individually and are not guaranteed to be successful; clinical outcomes are highly variable.
