Nutritional Consulting & Meal Planning

The food we eat energizes, nourishes, calms and heals us. Your food choices and how you prepare your meals make a difference in how well your body functions. Did you know that over 70% of your immune system lies in your digestive tract and what you eat can have a huge impact on your immune system? The right combination of foods can also improve digestion, eliminate bloating, heartburn and gas, and enhance the absorption of nutrients from your food and supplements.

In today’s world there are so many food choices, as well as misconceptions about what to eat and a vast amount of information on what foods are actually healthy. Understanding ingredient and nutrition labels adds another layer of complexity. At some point, you or a member of your family may be challenged with a health condition or allergy that requires a change in diet, and you may not know where to begin.

Pinewood’s Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant, Karen Gilman, guides patients to healthier food choices based on their individual requirements, food restrictions and health goals. She can review which foods might best to avoid and which foods you should consider adding to your diet, taking into consideration your tastes. From food lists to meal planning to recipes, Karen will help make the process of modifying your diet easier. As with all of us at Pinewood, she is here to support your journey to lifelong health.

Here are some of the ways Karen can assist you and your family:

  • Modify your diet. Adopting a vegan, vegetarian, anti-inflammatory, ketogenic, paleo, or alkaline diet.
  • Support your stage of life. Eating during pregnancy or menopause, introducing baby’s first foods and adjusting diet for seniors, accommodating picky eaters.
  • Improve digestion and nutrient absorption. Managing digestive sensitivities and/or bowel disease.
  • Manage allergies. Provide lists, meal plans and recipes for avoiding gluten, eggs, dairy, soy, nuts, and other allergens.
  • Support for specific conditions. Addressing high cholesterol, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, and obesity.
  • Master the kitchen. Conducting group workshops to improve your kitchen skills and facilitate meal preparation.
