Anxiety, stress, and exhaustion are a real concern during this coronavirus epidemic, simply because so many are contending with stresses such as self-isolation, job loss, and illness. Simply practicing social distancing can be taxing for some individuals, as can be dealing with family or friends who may not be handling the mental impacts of the pandemic. At the end of a long day standing in lines, watching all of the bad news and watching people squabble over politics on Facebook, I highly recommend taking an Epsom salt bath.

Simply filling a bathtub half full of warm water, adding two cups of Epsom salts to a bath, and then soaking can help to soothe such conditions as anxiety, brain fog, burn out, restless leg syndrome, nervous tension, headaches, brain fog, and depression.

Epsom salts contain magnesium sulfate, a mineral that assists the body with many essential processes, but you can augment the bath essential oils, herbs, and other ingredients to turn your 20-minute bath into a cooling stress-relieving spa.

Here are some recipes for helping you deal with the fall out from stress.

Epsom Salt and Beer. Add a cup of Guinness Beer and two cups of Epsom salts to a bath full of warm water. Beer contains hops, which is an age-old remedy for lifting the spirits, especially if the depression is caused by grief or an over-attachment to the past. If you don’t like the smell of beer, you can add essential oil of Hops directly to the two cups of bath salts and stir the mixture well, before adding them to the bath.

Epsom Salt With Peppermint and Orange Oil. This combination may help you lift you out of a dour mood as both are invigorating, happy scents that act as natural mood enhancers. Simply mix 3 drops of each oil into the 2 cups of salts and add to your bathwater. If you don’t have the essential oils on hand you can also shred a handful of mint leaves and cut an orange into two halves and drop them into a

Epsom Salt Bath with Rosemary. This bath may help you feel less exhausted and clearer. Rosemary essential oil is also a mild skin disinfectant that is also good for the scalp. Add 3 to 5 drops of essential oil of Rosemary to 2 cups of Epsom salts to help clarify the mind. You can also simply shred two to three stalks of rosemary of the leaves and float them in the bathtub water.

Epsom Salts With Rose Oil. Mix six drops of essential oil of Rose with two cups of Epsom salts to create a soothing, aromatic bath that helps you to zone out escape stress. You can also shred the petals of a rose and float them in your tub, to get a similar effect, just make sure that they are not sprayed with any type of pesticide.

Epsom Salts With Valerian for Insomnia

Mix six drops of the herb Valerian (distilled in alcohol or glycerin) with two cups of Epsom salts and add to tub of lukewarm water. Valerian is a centuries-old remedy for insomnia and it may also help with restless leg syndrome.

Be aware that some people do suffer from skin sensitivity from essential oils so be sure to try out a drop in a glass of warm water to see if you react at all before you add six drops of oil to a bathtub.
