If you can understand how a pathogen like Covid-19 behaves, the more you can prevent its spread. Scientists attempting to tame the pandemic believe this coronavirus is spread by contact. According to a study published in The Journal of Hospital Infection in March 2020 called Persistence of coronaviruses on inanimate surfaces and their inactivation with biocide agent, the virus lingers on most common surfaces including elevator buttons, call buttons, beside table, cell-phones, dishware and fabric.
How Long Can the Coronavirus Survive?
Covid-19 can survive at room temperature on metal, plastic and glass for as long as nine days, with an average lifespan of four to five days. The virus is also detectable in aerosols for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper and it can live up to 24 hours on cardboard. It was also found that on average, it takes 5.1 days before the virus manifests the severe acute respiratory syndrome that eventually leads to lung failure, kidney failure and death.

People who are infected shed high levels of the pathogen but are highly contagious. However once you the virus manifests its simply, you are no longer contagious. officials believe that the virus is spread mostly via droplets expelled by infected individuals. If someone with the virus sneezes or coughs, droplets may be produced, and those droplets can make you sick if they enter your nose, mouth, or eyes. This is why you must always bee washing your hands or sanitizing them with a disinfectant that contains over 60% alcohol.
Keep in mind as well that the longer you leave the disinfectant on a surface, the more likely the virus is to be killed.
Unfortunately, once you have had the coronavirus it can come back to infect you again so it is important to keep your home, belongings and person as clean as possible.
