It seems that almost every day consumers are faced with another big mystery about whether or not a food is safe enough to eat. This is largely due to industrial agriculture, which produces food (such as fake meat) in a lab. This is the opposite practice of creating sustainable, regenerative and chemical free farms that produce healthy organic food. Instead, industrial agricultural results in environmental pollution and does not address the long-term consequences of eating “fake food” on human health. This is because the production of fake meats in a laboratory, now sold en-masse at food outlets are not part of the natural ecological cycle and are largely made from BMO-rich mass-produced crops that rob nutrients from the soil such as potatoes, wheat, and saturated oils. The ingredients in these lab-grown meats that give them their taste and texture are genetically engineered yeast.
What Exactly is Cell-Cultured Meat?
Not all lab-grown meat is made from wheat, oil, and potatoes. Some types are grown from existing animal parts in a jar. The irony is that cell-cultured meat was initially invented to spare us from eating too much cow and chicken meat, which contribute to all kinds of industrial agriculture pollution.
Cell-cultured meat is grown in a nutrient rich media grown from existing meat such as chicken parts. The nutritional backlash here has to do with the fact that this man made food falls into the category of processed and refined foods which have always been shown to cause disease and cut life short. Whether you are eating meat grown from meat cells or processed from GMO-laden potatoes, you are taking risks with your health. As described in a report “From Lab to Fork: Critical Questions on Laboratory-Created Animal Product Alternatives” created by a group lobbying for food safety called Friends of the Earth in 2018, more studies need to be done regarding the safety and environmental sustainability of eating these foods.
As the health consequences of eating cell-cultured or lab-grown meats is unknown, it is best for you to choose grass-fed over lab-grown meats. You also might want to consider not eating meat at all, which is a healthier option for most people.
Grass-fed animals are raised in regenerative agriculture, rather than in an agricultural environment, which helps resist soil nutrient depletion. Grazing animals are healthier and support the environment’s natural tendency to heal itself. Lab-grown meat, on the other hand, is made from lifeless GMO-laden soy and wheat fields that smother natural grasslands. Your best bet is to buy meats that are certified grass-fed organic, which means the animal was raised and killed under humane conditions.
