  • Washing hands repeatedly with soap or washing dishes
  • Using a great deal of hand-sanitizer
  • Exposure to the sun
  • Windburn
  • Prolonged exposure to col dry weather
  • Exposure to chemicals like nail polish remover or solvents like pain thinner
  • Repeated bruising of a nail
  • Frequent fungal infections

Tips for Treating Brittle Naturally

Here are some ways to prevent and treat brittle nails.

  1. Stay hydrated at all times to make sure your skin is getting the moisture that it needs. Drink plenty of filtered, clean water and eat water-packed fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini cantaloupes, apples, oranges and grapefruit.
  2. Keep your hands out of water and wear protective gloves when doing dishes or cleaning your home. This will also help to protect your hands from detergents and chemicals in cleaners that can dry out your skin,
  3. Use a natural organic hand cream that is free of chemicals and scents and moisturize your hands well after you wash your hands.
  4. Rub your nails and cuticles with natural oils such as rosehip, coconut oil, vitamin E or shea butter. Rosehip oil, which is full of Vitamin C it is recommended as is broccoli seed oil, which is loaded with fatty acids.
  5. Get more biotin, also known as Vitamin B7 into your life either through taking supplements or eating more almonds eggs, onions, oats, sweet potatoes and tomatoes.
  6. Avoid wearing nail polish, nail polish remover or getting artificial nails. These will only make your problem worse.
  7. Eat more seaweed. Seaweed is full of minerals and a vegan source of protein that can help strengthen your nails.
