Is it possible to treat anxiety with natural remedies instead of resorting to over-the-counter or prescription medication? In fact, most people find natural remedies quite effective for treating mild or occasional anxiety, and they also experience far fewer side effects. Prescription remedies or anxiety often come with side effects such as headaches, fogginess, dry mouth andfatigue. Natural remedies tend to have no side effects or very minimal ones that are not as severe and are not as addictive as some of the prescription remedies.

Note that the best remedy for anxiety, is finding the root physical, environmental or emotional cause and then try to deal with the fear or stress that is triggering it.   These are supplements and teas that you can take to help you cope with life, but they are not cures for what really ails you. The remedies I am recommending are very gentle on the body, mind and psyche and can help relax you

Here are the Five Gentle Natural Anxiety Remedies that you can try the next time you feel anxious, nervous or restless.

Chamomile Tea

If insomnia, nervous tension and apprehension are part of your anxious condition, then drinking a cup of chamomile tea can help calm you down and spare you and evening of wild racing thoughts. Chamomile works by physically relaxing your blood vessels, helping to still anxious symptoms like a pounding heart or fluttering stomach. Chamomile Tea is also a natural muscle relaxant that helps you nod off at night.

Note that you probably shouldn’t drive while taking chamomile tea, as you could feel a little drowsy. If you are allergic to ragweed, you should also be careful when taking chamomile tea, as the chamomile is in the same family of plants.

Lemon Balm Tea or Aromatherapy

Lemon Balm is especially effective for anxiety that is accompanied by nausea and agitation. If you are the type of person who talks to themselves or paces when you are anxious, then Lemon Balm is for you. You can buy the herb fresh, and make a pot of tea or you can buy it dried in loose or tea bag form. You can also buy Lemon Balm as an essential oil and diffuse it through the air, which dispatches the molecules to your nasal receptors, which in turn alters your brain chemistry so you feel calmer and happier.

Lavender Aromatherapy

Lavender oil is one of the milder remedies for anxiety that exists and it is most effective for those people who suffer from heartbreak, grief or other emotional stress. You can buy dilute lavender oil in the form of sprays, which you can wear as a perfume, spray on your clothes or spray on your pillows. In this case, the molecules in the oils are dispatched through your nasal receptors, which in turn, changes your brain chemistry so that you feel calmer.

L-Theanine Amino Acid Supplements

L-Theanine is an essential amino acid that is a stress-reliever and mild mood enhancer. Taking GABA alters your brain chemistry by boosting your dopamine and serotonin levels, helping you to feel more relaxed. L-Theanine supplementation works very well for individuals suffering from stress that is due to depression or chronic illness

Valerian Root Tea, Syrup or Supplement

This is probably the heaviest of remedies recommended for anxiety on this list, as it qualifies as being a natural sedative. You should only take valerian root just before you go to bed and you should never operate machinery after taking it. It is available in liquid, capsule and tablet form and is very effective when it comes to controlling panic attacks, relieving stress related headaches and helping to promote stress. For some people, it is just as effective as valium. Valerian root is very effective because it contains GABA, a biochemical that helps to calm anxiety in the brain.

Be aware that for some people, Valerian root can cause some odd side effects including very vivid dreams and feeling a bit disassociated and stoned. Some people also experience headaches and sensitivity to light when they take it
