Do you suffer from insomnia? Almost everybody has experienced this exasperating condition, which can be so bad that you have to cancel your day and catch up on your sleep long after the sun has risen.
Just what exactly is insomnia? Insomnia takes a lot of forms including –
- Trouble falling asleep
- Frequent awakening during the night
- Waking up too early
- Not sleeping at all
What is the Cause of Insomnia?
Insomnia is caused by psychological states such as grief or worry, but it also often as a physical cause. Many diseases such as arthritis, blood sugar disorders and endocrine gland issues can cause insomnia. Simply going through the very normal process of menopause can cause sleeplessness.
However, more often then not it is medications, both prescribed and recreational that are causing the restlessness and sleeplessness. Thyroid preparations, antidepressants, vitamins, herbal preparations, beta blockers, marijuana, smoking, caffeine and alcohol can disrupt sleep so it is best to assess what you are putting into your body every night before you got to sleep. Sometimes minimizing a habit, such as drinking coffee with a cigarette three times a day, ca help you sleep like a baby again.
Medication is Addictive And Sometimes Worse Than The Problem
Dosing yourself with the pharmaceutical chemicals that are in most prescription and non prescription pills every night is harmful to your health. However, insomnia is such a serious, uncomfortable and individually unique problem that usually it is cured by “whatever works.” In recent years it has been discovered that a program of juicing or drinking certain juices may help to alleviate insomnia
How Drinking Juice Before Bed Helps Remedy Insomnia
If you are an insomniac then there are certain nutrients that you need from juices in order to rebalance the brain and body so that you can sleep peacefully through the evening once more. These include B vitamins, calcium, magnesium and folate. Juices also contain glucose, which helps raise your serotonin levels a little, which in turn makes you feel sleepy.
Juice Shots For Insomnia that Work
- Beneficial juices that can be used to treat the condition of insomnia by either drinking them as “shots” on their own or mixing them together to create an all natural and healthy bedtime cocktail include –
- Broccoli, tomato and carrots, which are fantastic sources of niacin.
- Spinach and peas, which are potent sources of vitamin B6.
- Parsley, collard greens and blackberry, which are generous sources of magnesium.
- Kale, collar greens and broccoli that are good sources of calcium
- Asparagus which is a good source of folate
- Lettuce and celery which are traditional remedies for insomnia
- Grape and pineapple which are high in glucose and sucrose thus enabling sleep inducing levels of serotonin to be increased.
If you have insomnia, restless leg syndrome or another type of sleeping disorder then it might be well worth your while to try out some of the following sleep remedy recipes concocted from fresh juice –
Traditional Lettuce Sleep Potion
Lettuce juice has been used for centuries to cure insomnia. Drinking this potion thirty minutes before your usual bedtime may help you get a better night’s sleep.
- 3-4 lettuce leaves
- 1 stalk celery
Bunch up lettuce and push through the juicer’s hopper and drink immediately.
Calming Collard Cocktail
Collard greens contain an enormous amount of calcium – more than any other leafy green. The garlic, chives and parsley add a kick of magnesium to make the calcium work more effectively. This savory cocktail may help put you to sleep.
If you don’t have collard greens you can substitute kale or mustard greens instead, which are also extremely high in calcium.
- Handful of collard greens
- Small tomato
One of the keys to curing insomnia using fresh juices is to take them in a timely fashion, which in this case is about thirty minutes before it is time for you to go to bed. If you ingest the juice and then do not make an effort to go to bed and go to sleep these natural remedies may not work
